Readers find "Searching for True Community, A Self-Help Book on National Security" relevant, informative and an enjoyable read in its use of metaphors and analogies to engage readers and make a challenging topic relatable to them.

To be honest I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book. I didn’t even understand the concept of a self-help book on national security. But, David Van Bennekum got me there in a way that was both enjoyable and educational. I love his use of pop culture, and witty banter to engage someone like me who knows nothing about national security.

I breezed through Dave's book in one sitting on a Saturday morning and marveled at his skillful use of a range of hooks -- pop culture (Dave hooked me right away with the My Cousin Vinny and Fast Times references), behavioral science, history, philosophy and biology, among others -- to engage his audience and make the subject of national security intensely interesting and accessible. Dave frames this as a self-help book, which is a little unusual for a book about national security, but very apt.

Recently finished reading this book, and really enjoyed it. It has so much great information and reflects so much of my own feelings about the need to be supportive of a community. Much of the information about our national government is so much clearer in this book than what we learn in school.

If you want to feel confident about understanding what the higher brains on any of the news channels are talking about when it comes national security or be able to participate (without looking like a complete dimwit) in conversations with your fellow friends and neighbors, then reading this book will definitely fix that.

Great book that breaks down national security to a level of understanding that has you really question and thinking about things from a different prospective! Well done Mr. Van Bennekum!
